I really REALLY want to start regularly running but I cant make it down my block basically without almost passing out, which makes me not want to do it!! Like I literally get winded just going a few minutes…
PSA: steady state cardio is no fun!!!! high intensity intervals are SO!!! much easier and you can feel the difference in how long/fast you can go within a week or two (and you burn more calories) when i first started running i would start with 10 minutes of walking to warm up and i did 20 minutes of 30 seconds at 4 mph (it’s like a light jog) with 30 seconds of however slow you need to go to recover back to a steady respiratory rate, you can even stop moving completely if you can’t catch your breath walking. and repeat, repeat, repeat. after two weeks (or whenever it gets too easy) you can start running for a minute at a time with 30 seconds of rest. adding time to the running period and keeping rest the same and then increasing intensity of the running pace is basically the idea. it’s so rewarding when you feel yourself catching your breath within the first five seconds of rest when it took you the whole thirty at the beginning of the week. SERIOUSLY. if you hate running TRY THIIIIS. i run 6 mph for ten minutes with 2 minute rests and when i tell you i could barely walk from my bedroom to my bathroom without getting winded i’m dead serious. HIIT is a+ for building stamina and you will burn more calories throughout the day because you’ll be tapping into your anaerobic metabolism:^)
